Intermediate Spanish Dialogues for Travel

Handle airports, hotels, and surprises like a confident traveler

Once you've covered the basics, traveling in a Spanish-speaking country becomes the perfect classroom. This page is built for intermediate learners who already know greetings and present tense but struggle the moment a hotel clerk speaks fast or a taxi driver asks a follow-up question.

You'll find 20 essential travel phrases, three realistic dialogues drawn from actual situations, three roleplays you can do alone, and a short practice challenge to lock everything in. Start with the vocabulary, then read each dialogue out loud twice — once as each speaker.

Talk like a local

Slang and cultural tips native speakers actually use.

¿Mande?

What did you say? / Sorry?

In Mexico this is the polite way to ask someone to repeat themselves — much warmer than '¿qué?'.

Buenísimo

Awesome / Great

Native speakers stretch adjectives with '-ísimo'. Use it when a taxi driver tells you a quick route.

Vale

OK / Got it

Universal in Spain, common in Latin America. Use it to acknowledge instructions without overcommitting.

Ahorita

Right now (sort of)

In Mexico 'ahorita' can mean anywhere from 5 minutes to never. Always ask 'más o menos cuándo?' to confirm.

Practice challenge: 30-second tongue twister

Set a 30-second timer and say this sentence out loud five times, getting smoother each round. Then record yourself once and listen back.

"Disculpe, ¿me podría decir a qué hora sale el próximo vuelo a Barcelona desde la puerta veintitrés?"
